Copter Royale vs Defly.io: What Is the Same, What Is Different, and Why You Are Playing Defly Here
Published · 2 min read
Same studio, same copter
Defly.io went live in 2018. Copter Royale followed in late 2019 as an exclusive for Coolmath Games, and if you have played either one the other feels immediately familiar: a top-down grid, a helicopter with momentum, a mouse to aim, and one key that drops a tower under you. Towers close enough to each other link into a wall, a closed loop of walls becomes your territory, and territory is what levels you up. That core is identical, down to the way your own bullets pass through your walls while enemy bullets stop at them.
Where Copter Royale changes the rules
Copter Royale adds a shrinking zone. The map edge closes in over the course of a match, so pilots who built a quiet base in a corner eventually have to abandon it and fly toward the middle, where everyone else is heading too. There are no respawns: the match has a winner, the last helicopter airborne, and everyone else has a placing. It has its own set of superpowers along the upgrade path too, so a long-lived pilot ends up with an ability the fresh spawns do not have.
Where Defly.io is bigger
Defly has five modes rather than one. FFA is the endless free-for-all with respawns, where the leaderboard is territory held. TEAM splits the server into two colours. DEFUSE is a round-based bomb game — one side plants, the other defuses — that rewards wall-building around the bomb site more than anything else in either game. 1v1 is exactly that. And E-FFA is elimination free-for-all: everyone spawns once, nobody comes back, and the last copter flying wins. It has no shrinking zone, so the endgame is slower and more about patience, but it is the same question Copter Royale asks: can you outlast the server?
Why the Coolmath version is not on this page
Coolmath's game page is served with a header that tells browsers to refuse showing it inside any other site, and the game client only talks to Coolmath's own servers. There is no honest way to put it on copterroyale.org — anything claiming to be Copter Royale elsewhere is either a broken frame or a different game wearing the name. Defly.io, by contrast, is Exodragon's own site and it allows embedding, so what you play here is the real, current game with real players. Pick E-FFA and it is the closest thing to Copter Royale that exists outside coolmathgames.com.
