Copter Royale and Defly.io: one copter, two games, and which one you are flying here
Copter Royale arrived on Coolmath Games in late 2019 and became one of the most played multiplayer games on that site. The idea is simple to explain and hard to master: you fly a small helicopter over a grid, you shoot other helicopters, and you press one key to drop towers that link up into walls. Walls block bullets and block other copters, so the map turns into a maze that the players themselves are drawing in real time. Kills and captured ground earn levels, levels buy upgrades, and in Copter Royale a circle closes in from the edges so the survivors are forced into the same shrinking patch of grid until one copter is left.
The studio behind it, Exodragon, did not invent that loop for Coolmath. It took it from Defly.io, the helicopter game it had been running since 2018, and adapted it into a royale with a zone. Coolmath's version runs only inside coolmathgames.com — its page refuses to be shown on any other site — so we cannot put it here honestly. What we can do is give you the game it grew out of. Defly.io on this page is the live game on Exodragon's own servers, with the same copter controls, the same tower-and-wall building, and a choice of modes: the free-for-all where territory is the score, a team mode, a bomb-defusal round, a 1v1, and E-FFA, the elimination mode with no respawns that plays most like Copter Royale. Press Play, pick E-FFA, and the last helicopter flying wins.
Controls & mechanics
| Action | Control | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Fly | W A S D or arrow keys | Moves the copter; it has momentum, so ease off early when you are lining up a wall |
| Aim and shoot | Mouse to aim, left-click to fire | Bullets stop at walls, yours and theirs |
| Build a tower | Space or right-click | Drops a tower under you; towers close to each other join into a wall |
| Claim territory | Close a loop of walls | The enclosed area turns your colour and levels you up |
| Upgrade | Number keys or click the bars | Each level gives a point for speed, damage, range or tower stats |
| Pick a mode | FFA, TEAM, DEFUSE, E-FFA, 1v1 on the start screen | E-FFA is elimination — the Copter Royale way to play |
How to last longer in Copter Royale and Defly.io
- Build before you fight: A fresh copter loses most straight duels. Drop three or four towers in a corner first, close a small square, and you have a base that blocks bullets from three sides and a level or two of upgrades before anyone finds you.
- Walls are for shooting through, not hiding behind: Your bullets pass your own walls; enemy bullets do not. Fly along the inside of your line and fire out through it — an attacker has to break a tower down before they can hit you back.
- Spend the first points on tower range: Longer range means towers link from further apart, so every Space press claims more ground. Speed and damage matter later; early on, the size of the loop you can close is what levels you.
- Cut, do not chase: A copter that flies away from you is drawing a wall behind it. Fly across its path and drop a tower to break the line; a broken loop claims nothing and the pilot has to start again while you shoot.
- In E-FFA, sit tight in the middle third: There is no respawn, so the leaderboard rewards survival. Build a base away from the edges where the fighting starts, keep towers repaired, and only push out when the count on the board is down to a handful.
Key features
- Live players: Every mode is online against real people on Exodragon's servers, with a region selector so you are on the nearest one.
- Wall building: Towers join into walls, walls close into territory, and territory is both your score and your fortress.
- Five modes: Free-for-all, two-team, bomb defusal, no-respawn elimination and a 1v1 duel, chosen from the start screen.
- Upgrades and superpowers: Each level is a point for the upgrade bars; reaching level 20 unlocks a superpower that changes how a round ends.
Game info
- Title: Defly.io
- Developer: Exodragon Games
- Category: Battle Royale
- Platform: Web browser (HTML5)
- Players: Up to a few dozen per server, live
Pro tip: Two towers do not need to touch to make a wall — they link as long as they are within tower range of each other, and the link is drawn the moment the second one lands. So build in straight lines at maximum spacing: you claim the same ground with half the presses, and you keep more copter movement for dodging while you do it.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the Copter Royale from Coolmath Games?
No. Copter Royale is exclusive to coolmathgames.com and that page cannot be embedded anywhere else. The game on this page is Defly.io, made by the same studio (Exodragon) and the game Copter Royale was adapted from: the same helicopter, the same tower-and-wall building, live multiplayer servers. Its E-FFA mode is elimination, the nearest thing to the royale.
How do I build walls?
Press Space or right-click to drop a tower under your copter. Towers within range of each other join into a wall automatically. Close a loop and the inside becomes your territory.
What do levels do?
Every level gives one upgrade point for the bars at the bottom-left — copter speed, bullet damage, tower range, tower health and the rest. Level 20 unlocks a superpower.
Which mode is most like Copter Royale?
E-FFA. Everyone spawns once, nobody respawns, and the last copter flying wins. FFA is the endless free-for-all if you would rather respawn and keep building.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Defly.io switches to a touch layout on phones and tablets with a joystick for flying and buttons for shooting and building. A mouse and keyboard still make aiming easier.
